Shelley Hunter is a Kentucky based artist with a passion for clay and an abiding love of bronze.  “Translating the beauty and power of the horse into clay is a constant joy for me”, she says.  Her work is characterized by bold, strong pieces with lots of action.

Students will have five days of intensive instruction at the Kentucky Horse Park. They will learn how to build an armature and work their way through a finished clay sculpture.  Each day will start with a lecture or a demonstration and then work time with individual instruction.  There will be emphasis on anatomy plus work on composition and general artistic themes.  The week may include a day trip to art destinations, such as a foundry, museums and local artists’ studios.

Shelley Hunter has been a Signature member with the AAEA since 2002. She has won numerous awards around the country, including multiple awards at the American Academy of Equine Art (AAEA), the Anne Hyatt Huntington Award at the Catherine Lorilard Wolfe Show in New York City and Best in Show at the Equestrian Eye Show in Detroit, Michigan.  Her work is featured in many collections and includes two large public sculptures on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
