Impressive lessons are to be learned by close examination of the works of “‘The Masters”: Munnings, Russell, Remington, Lucy Kemp-Welch, Lady Butler and Rosa Bonheur.

Studying their work yields a bounty of practical information about their genius that is applicable to our own efforts as equine artists; we will examine their work focusing on the uses of light, color, atmosphere and design, with an emphasis on the technical means used to achieve their ends.

Participants are encouraged to collect and study color images in books, prints and online of their favorites to bring to class and share with other participants.

Studio techniques and materials will be an integral part of our study throughout the week; a complete list of materials will be provided before we begin.

Larry Wheeler, long time AAEA Signature Member,  paints horses and the people who breed, train, race, show and ride them with an honesty that stems from his lifelong love of painting the human figure.  He has been active in the world of equine art for forty years.

His work hangs in the Maryland State House, the State of Texas, the Supreme Court of the US, the City of Baltimore, the Johns Hopkins University, the State of Delaware, The Keeneland Association, the Ralph Lauren Co.,  and many other entities too numerous to list here.

We at the AAEA are proud to offer a workshop taught by an artist of this caliber.
