Barbara Oelke is the author of the popular studio companion book, Drawing and Painting Horses, The Art of the Equine Form, published by Watson-Guptill. An award-winning artist who has been depicting scenes of the equine lifestyle for more than twenty-five years, her work has appeared in many invitational and juried exhibitions throughout the United States and is included in numerous private collections. A long-time full member of the American Academy of Equine Art, she currently serves as the organization's vice president.

Ms. Oelke studied painting at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.. where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. While at GWU she was the recipient of the David Lloyd Kreeger award for two consecutive years, and was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Prix de Rome award. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and was awarded a Norfolk Fellowship for study at Yale University.
